| Malkuri Malkuri is a group of musicians and craftsmen from the Highlands of Ecuador, South America. The name, Malkuri, means “Golden Condor” in the ancient Quechua language. The members of Malkuri travel to promote the beauty of the Native Andes Culture. Through the music of our people, we offer comfort and healing songs to all. We are all self-taught musicians ---interpreting the message of the Spirits in a beautiful and ethereal way, touching the soul through the vocals of Quechua Inka language. The Inka have many different flutes. Each is hand-made of a unique Andean Bamboo. The most popular types of flutes are Quenas, Samponas, Sikus and Rondador. Our flute music is accompanied by hand-made string instruments. The first is called a Charango, which has 10 strings. The second most common string instrument is known as a Bandolin and has fifteen strings. We also use the classical acoustic guitar. We often use percussion instruments such as Chachas (a collection of Llama hooves strung together), drums, and rain-sticks to enhance our sound. The variety of crafts and traditional instruments are all hand-crafted by the Native people with tender love and care. ~Jaime Chavez. |
